A DIGITAL CIRCLE // EST. 2023 / ROTTERDAM

This is an un— coworking space.

Four ways to spend a tuesday.

Not open-plan hell. Not a café with wifi. TOFKAP is a studio split into four zones that actually do different things, because your brain isn't a spreadsheet.

01 / WORK

Working
space

Fast wifi, fancy desks, big monitors, no suits. Bring your laptop, your deadline and your hot takes.

02 / PLAY

Jamming
zone

Synths, drum machines, a mixer and the kind of neighbours who don't mind. Plug in and make noise.

03 / BUILD

Prototyping
station

Soldering iron, 3D printer, breadboards, a drawer of weird parts. Fix a broken thing. Invent a weird one.

04 / REST

Cozy
area

Soft lamp, softer armchair. A kitchen that actually gets used. Take a nap, read a book, stare into space.

// 02 · the place

See it with your own eyes.

Rotterdam, Korte Bajonetstraat 40. Loud in the good way. Photos don't quite catch the smell of fresh coffee, sorry.

// 03 · the why
not a cowork

We built this because every co‑working in town felt like an office with plants. We wanted noise, curiosity, and people who make things, not just people who take meetings.

Born from the ashes
of Protobureau.

TOFKAP was born from the ashes of one of my previous studio adventures: Protobureau, a prototyping lab. Once that project wrapped, the place was too big for me alone, so me and a bunch of collaborators reinvented it together. The idea: a place for making friends, working on our own businesses, eventually helping each other out, but also building things with zero brakes on creativity. Turns out there aren't that many places in Rotterdam for jamming, either.

→ yes, that's where the name TOFKAP actually comes from. Read the story.

What began as a single room with a desk and a synth has grown into a small studio shared by a handful of people who come here to build, play, cook and hang out. Eight seats, two kinds of desks, zero corporate energy. That's the whole thing.

If any of this sounds like your kind of place, pop by. Coffee's on me.

Frequently asked… actually asked.

A few honest answers to the questions that keep landing in our Instagram DMs. Still curious? Just pop by.

Short version: an uncoworking space in Rotterdam. Long version: a studio built by musicians, coders and makers who wanted something louder, weirder and more human than the usual hot-desk farm. We share the rent, the synths, the kitchen and the occasional 2am pizza.
Three jokes stacked. Before this place was TOFKAP, it was Protobureau, a prototyping lab a lot of people around town remember, mostly for the music. When we relaunched we wanted a name that still nodded to the old one. Enter Prince, who once renamed himself TAFKAP (The Artist Formerly Known As Prince). So TOFKAP = The Office Formerly Known As Protobureau. And because we're in Rotterdam: tof is Dutch for "cool" and kap roughly means "head", so it also lands as cool head. Three things, one name. We'll take it.
Yes. Friends of TOFKAP are friends of us. For one-off visits just DM ahead so we know you're coming. If they want to stick around, we'll get them onboarded.
Pretty much. We have a synth rack, drum machines, a mixer, monitors and a handful of guitars. Ask one of us first for the fragile stuff, then go wild. Headphones exist for a reason. Use them when the rest of us are on a call.
Absolutely. Full stove, oven, pans, the works. Cooking for the house is the fastest way to make friends here. Please don't be the person who leaves the sink.
Yes. Soldering iron, multimeter, 3D printer, hot air station, breadboards, and a drawer of mystery parts. If you're repairing something cursed, just open a window.
We love that. Past guests have run synth jams, soldering nights, pasta classes, zine-making afternoons. DM us with the idea. If it's cool we'll make space, and usually co-host.
Easiest path: book a visit on Calendly or mail supertofkap@gmail.com. We'll show you around, you'll meet the crew, and from there you pick a plan that makes sense.
